Thanks for this post! I found your thoughts inspiring; they encouraged me to reflect more deeply into myself as a visible learner.
One of the greatest part about being an educator is the imperative to be a learner as well. I couldn't be a successful educator without being a constant and lifelong learner. To add 'visible' to learner not only deepens my learning but also makes me a more connected educator.
I appreciate Rodd Lucier's diagram and the two continuums he proposes: intellectual engagement and emotional connectivity. What struck me about this diagram was that while both high intellectual engagement and emotional connectivity are goals for engaged learning, learned cannot always be operating in this place. It would be exhausting and not sustainable. Engaging in visible and connected learning activities on various points of Lucier's continua allow learners to build the necessary connections in order to create a place for themselves in their learning community and engage and connect at high levels.
Yes, I agree that sharing is my work as an educator. Sharing and making visible my learning and, with permission, help my students share their learning so as to make our learning communities more connected.
Cheers,
Laura
PS: I'd love to hear how your proposal to Shelley Wright evolves, and possibly become involved as well...?!
PSS: I'm feeling like our OLTD co-conspirators are somewhere around the collaborator stage of the 7 degrees of connectedness. This course in openness is definitely moving me in that collaborative direction.
