Travellers,
there is no path.
Paths are made by walking.
-Antonio Machado
I feel like we are in the midst of a learning revolution and I want to be part of it. Sir Ken Robinson suggests a need for a complete transformation of educational systems and I think that he contributed to the movement with his 2006 TEDTalk Schools Kill Creativity. Six years later and I see and hear of so many great ideas. What's I'd like to part of is putting them into action, which is one of the reasons I joined VIU's OLTD. I want to do more doing and less talking. I'd like to be play an innovative role in this transformation.
In an ideal world I do not want to be financially dependent on my employment through the school district. This in itself is insecure (contract-to-contract, no guarantee of future work) and while I learn a lot in my current position I feel sometimes that this dependence restricts my creativity and ability to effect change. Without getting too political, I'd ideally like to be employed in a system that truly fosters and embodies the transformation of which Sir Ken Robinson speaks. I'm confident that my spiral learning and doing path is leading me to these places!
